| Modern
Masters® Venetian Plaster™ is a tintable acrylic plaster finishing
system that can develop a beautiful, highly polished appearance. The applicator
can control the sheen level of the finish by simply sanding and burnishing
the plaster. Various looks can be created such as polished marble, stone
and suede.
This
high polish isn't the only unique quality; the more you polish the more
translucent the finish becomes. This translucency creates the depth seen
in real marble and the beautiful finish is so smooth, it even feels like
marble. In fact, Venetian Plaster™ was formulated to
imitate
a complicated "Old World" Italian technique called "Scagliola".
It has been used for centuries to create the look of marble on areas where
marble structurally could not be installed.
Scagliola
is very time consuming and difficult to apply, but Modern Masters®
Venetian Plaster™ requires only 3 EASY STEPS. A beautiful, high
polished, marble-like finish can be achieved, but with much less time,
effort and cost.
What surface can it be applied to?
Venetian Plaster™ can be applied to any flat, smooth surface like
walls and ceilings. The surface must be a primed or matte (flat) finish.
What
colors are available?
Venetian Plaster™ bases are untinted, therefore the color options
are limitless. Venetian Plaster™ is a polished plaster with translucency
and depth. If a color is chosen from a paint chip, the color will not
match exactly, but the highs and lows will be in the same color "family."
Tint Guide
Venetian
Plaster™ Tint Base
Off-white, pastel and medium deep colors can be achieved.
Coverage: 150-200 sq. ft./gal., drying time 2-4 hours.
Venetian
Plaster™ Ultra Deep Tint Base
Medium deep to ultra deep colors can be achieved.
Coverage: 150-200 sq. ft./gal., drying time 2-4 hours.
Venetian
Plaster™ Satin Topcoat
The topcoat is used for sealing Venetian Plaster™ (see Protecting
the Finishes). It is also used to create shimmering translucent metallic
topcoats (see below).
Coverage: 800-1,200 sq. ft./gal., drying time 1-2 hours.
Other Decorative Options
Translucent
Metallic Sheen
To add a translucent metallic sheen over the Venetian Plaster™,
add Modern Masters® Metallic Paint to the Satin Topcoat in a ratio
of 3 oz. paint to 1 quart of topcoat. Mix well with a stir stick and apply
with a putty knife over the Venetian Plaster™. Scrape off the excess
and let this coat dry.
Crackle
Use a crackle medium under the texture coat to create cracks.
Ornamental
Relief
Trowel through a stencil to create ornamental relief.
