DESCRIPTION
Oil Base DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer is a ready-mixed masonry waterproofing
paint specially formulated to waterproof interior, exterior, above or
below grade masonry walls. Ideal for use on cinder and concrete block,
poured concrete walls, stucco, brick, retaining walls, basement walls,
birdbaths and fishponds. Not for use on floors.
SURFACE
PREP
Masonry surfaces must be clean and free from dirt, dust, grease,
oil, form release compound, frost or paint. Patch all holes or cracks
with DRYLOK Fast Plug, a fast setting hydraulic cement, and smooth the
patch evenly with the surface around it. Check the joint where the floor
and wall meet and fill any breaks with DRYLOK Fast Plug. EFFLORESCENCE,
a white, powdery, crystal-like deposit visible on the masonry surface
must be removed. DRYLOK ETCH or muriatic acid, used according to manufacturer’s
directions, are effective efflorescence removal agents. All masonry
surfaces are subject to occurrences of efflorescence. Containing synthetic
rubber and Portland cement, this tough, alkali-resistant coating may
be applied on slightly damp surfaces but best results are obtained when
applied on dry surfaces.
APPLICATION
STIR THOROUGHLY BEFORE AND DURING APPLICATION.
DO NOT THIN. Paint only when air and surface temperatures are 50°F
or higher. Apply DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer directly on bare masonry.
For best waterproofing results, wait for a dry (rain-free) period before
application. Apply first coat with a DRYLOK BRUSH or good quality nylon
bristle or fiber brush, working the WATERPROOFER into the pores of the
masonry - avoid excessive brushing (see COVERAGE). APPLY TWO COATS.
Allow 12 hours drying time between coats. The second coat may be applied
by brush, roller or spray.
COVERAGE
On
rough, porous masonry apply at the rate of 75 sq. ft. per gallon for the
first coat and up to 125 sq. ft. per gallon for succeeding coats. On dense,
smooth surfaces, apply at the rate of 100-125 sq. ft. per gallon for the
first coat and up to 125 sq. ft. per gallon for succeeding coats.
CLEAN-UP
Clean application tools with paint thinner immediately after use.
IMPORTANT
If leaking is still present after two coats, it indicates that
pores or pin holes are still open. These areas should be painted again.
When painting the inside of concrete fish ponds and water tanks, allow
DRYLOK to dry one week before filling with water. Let stand full for 48
hours then drain. Allow surface to dry 48 hours and refill. This procedure
will control the alkalinity content. If desired, a high quality latex
paint can be applied over DRYLOK Masonry Waterproofer after 30 days for
decorative purposes. |
